Travel is one of the most common reasons customers stock up on personal lubricant — and one of the situations where a few small choices make the difference between a smooth trip and a leaky bag. This guide covers bottle sizes, packing strategies, airport security, and destination-specific considerations.
The short version
For carry-on air travel, choose a bottle under 100ml / 3.4 fl oz. Squeeze a little air out before capping for the flight. Pack inside a sealed plastic bag. For checked luggage, wrap the cap in a small piece of plastic wrap or tape as insurance against pressure changes.
Bottle size and airport security
TSA and most international security agencies allow liquids in containers up to 100ml / 3.4 fl oz in carry-on luggage, packed inside a single quart-sized clear bag. Our ANGCURE silicone lubricant in 4 fl oz / 120ml fits the limit (just under, at 118ml).
For checked luggage, there is no size limit, but pressure changes in the cargo hold can force liquid out of poorly sealed bottles.
Preventing leaks in transit
Air pressure changes during flights are the most common cause of leaks. Three small habits prevent almost all of them:
- Squeeze a little air out of the bottle before capping. This creates a slight vacuum that keeps the lubricant inside as ambient pressure drops.
- Pack the bottle inside a sealed plastic bag. If a leak does happen, it stays contained.
- Stand the bottle upright in your bag if possible, or wrap the cap in a small piece of plastic wrap.
Choosing a formula for travel
Silicone-based lubricants travel better than water-based formulas for two reasons:
- They do not separate under temperature and pressure changes.
- They are waterproof — useful at a hotel, a hot spring, or a beach.
The trade-off is cleanup: silicone requires soap and warm water, which is rarely a problem at a hotel but worth knowing.
Packing for different trip types
Weekend trip
A single 120ml bottle of silicone lubricant is plenty for a weekend. Pack inside a sealed plastic bag in your carry-on or toiletry kit.
Longer vacation (1-2 weeks)
One or two 120ml bottles, depending on use. Consider also packing a small applicator if your routine calls for one — our reusable applicators travel well and clean easily.
International travel
Same packing rules apply. Personal lubricants are not restricted items internationally — they fall under standard personal care products for customs purposes.
Camping or backpacking
For trips where weight and trash matter, decant a small amount into a leak-resistant travel container. Pack out the empty bottle — do not leave it on the trail.
Hotel considerations
Hotel rooms are typically climate-controlled, so storage is straightforward. Avoid leaving a lubricant bottle in a hot car or in direct sunlight through a window — heat degrades the formula over time.
Disposal on the road
Empty bottles can usually be recycled in standard hotel recycling bins. If recycling is not available, sealing the empty bottle in a plastic bag and packing it out is the cleaner option.
